As most of you know, college isn't easy, but I've got five simple tips to make it slightly less painful.
Tip #1: Do NOT procrastinate. Set aside time in your schedule to get things done before the last minute. I've had my fair share of stressful nights and after two years I've finally convinced myself procrastinating is not worth the stress and you should too! I know that movie night with your friends sounds fun, but don't good grades and a stress-free mind sound better?!
Tip #2: Get a planner and USE IT. My planner is my best friend. Nerd alert, I know, but this book has saved me from missing an assignment too many times. When you are in class and a professor tells you about an upcoming homework assignment, take your planner out right away and jot that sucker down. You'll thank me later.
Tip #3: Be friends with your classmates! This is so important. Having friends in a class will help you out so much. If you have a question on an assignment or miss a class for some reason, it is so helpful being able to reach out to your classmates if you can't get ahold of your professor right away.
Tip #4: Get to know your professor. From my experience, when you get to know your professor, you will be more interested in learning from them and feel more comfortable asking questions inside and outside of class.
Tip #5: Give yourself time to rest. This goes hand in hand with our first tip. If you don't procrastinate you will have time to relax, and more importantly, more time to sleep. Getting enough sleep in college will help you out tremendously. I've heard multiple students talking about how they stayed up all night studying for their big exam the next morning but this isn't necessarily a good thing. Without sleep, your brain won't function as well as it would have with a good nights rest.
I hope these tips help you all out as much as they do for me. As stressful as college may get, don't discourage yourself! Put in the hard work and you will see great results.
