How To: Politics Edition

Taylor Jewett

For most people, hearing the word "politics" is an instant eye roll. As a Republican in a Democrat dominant society, it is sometimes difficult to say anything that won't upset someone. Although you may still do anything to avoid talking about politics, I have a few tips to help you get through the dreaded conversation.

Tip #1: Be openminded. This is something many people lack nowadays, as everyone believes their opinion to be right. Stay true and faithful to your beliefs but don't shut someone out just because they don't share the same mindset as you. Yes, I know. It's definitely easier said than done but in the end, it'll probably save you from a headache.

Tip#2: Don't be overpowering and offensive. As you may already know, we live in a very sensitive world these days. Anything you say or do can offend someone whether that is your intention or not. Try to stay as civil and calm as possible. Think of it as just a nice conversation. Maybe even add in a couple "I see where you're coming from" statements here and there.

Tip #3: Stay calm. Politics are something that tend to upset others. Try your best to stay calm in a situation where someone is disagreeing with you. Outraging and getting frustrated will only make matters worse. Let them speak their mind and just know that you are loyal to your beliefs and nothing can change that other than you.

I hope these tips help you out in this crazy, politics filled world! Stay true to yourself. It's great to have an opinion! Don't let anyone tear you down. See ya next time!
